itmWEB SITE RECEIVES DOMAIN NAME APPROVAL
AUSTIN, TEXAS, (JULY 25, 1997) -- Official approval was given today by Network Solutions, Inc. for the itmWEB Site to take ownership of its own domain name ITMWEB.COM. "This is another important step for the itmWEB Site in its quest for credibility," stated site founder Russ Finney. "It also adds another dimension of convenience for the site visitor who may have a difficult time remembering the Geocities assigned URL."
The new site URL becomes http://www.itmweb.com. "I was very pleased when Geocities announced the program supporting unique domain names," said Finney. "This is a natural evolution for this site, which has the goal of rising from the ranks of homepages to become one of the premium information technology reference destinations on the web. One of the biggest concerns about hosting the itmWEB Site at Geocities was if the satisfied site visitor would be able to relocate the site among Geocities nearly 800,000 other homepages. This new URL goes a long way in helping to resolve that issue."
Another important, recent development for the itmWEB site was the transfer of the Paradise Web services to a much faster server. "The Paradise conversion nearly tripled the speed of the MIS forum sponsored by the itmWEB Site," stated Finney. "It also increased the loading speed for several itmWEB counters which improves overall site performance."
In conjunction with the Paradise Web improvements, many of the itmWEB Site pages have been optimized for graphics display and downloading time. "Most of the larger pages have seen their bandwidth utilization cut in half," remarked Finney. "This speed improvement is important for making a visitor's site experience something worth a later revisit."
The itmWEB Site is a vast collection of resources for information technology professionals. These range from methodology white papers, to systems development and programming content, to high quality technology links. A significant number of important IT papers are also hosted at the site.
